Switch-a-roo!

Disney is 3 months old now and enjoyed seeing me in his new cage! His new cage is a bit bigger than his old one and will give him the extra room to stretch.

Disney won't be able to go in it until a new front panel is received that will allow the drawer to slide in.

Halloween Group Shot

Disney had his first group shot at our Halloween party on October 25th. He had fun and did very well with everyone there.

He is over 12 weeks old and is flying well. He can navigate from the living room, around the family room and back into the kitchen. He can also do a 180 degree turn in the living room. So far, he has not crashed or broken anything yet.

He is starting to explore the house a bit more. He walks around more of the living room.

He is still being hand fed in addition to him eating on his own. When he wants to be fed, he scrunches up and lifts his head and stays still. He looks so cute! He has one good hand feeding in the evening and a small hand feeding snack at noon.

He is starting to whistle and is making nasal sort of noises like he is try to talk. He likes me to hold his beak and rub it.

He is really trying hard to poop on the paper towel. He walks over to it, does his little wiggle and poops - except his butt is not always over the paper towel!

At night, he goes right into his cage and sometimes eats with the cage covered. I hear him crunching eating his seeds and pellets.

I bought him a new cage. Two boxes came today and unfortunately one of the cage panels with the door is damaged. A third box is being shipped along with a new cage cover.

"Corn" on the Range

Disney really enjoyed eating his Corn-on-the-Cob. This was a new experience for him. He had his beak covered with corn by the time he was done!

He spent more time on his play stand. This time he moved around and investigated a few more areas. He had a snack while he stayed there.

Breakfast Buffet

Disney enjoys eating his food in the morning before I put it in his cage. He samples the seed, veggies, fruit and whatever else I put in his cage. It seems he enjoys eating them more out of his cage than in.

He's been very good at flying. He flew across the room today and landed gracefully on the recliner.

He also stayed on his play stand for a while today. He was watching the people going to our neighbor's Tag Sale.

Another First!

Disney is 11 weeks old today and had another milestone... he FLEW!

The first time, he flew to me when I was in the Kitchen fixing his formula at lunch time. I had him on the perch in the living room, and I peeked to see what he was doing. He saw me, took off, and flew right to me! He was very graceful. He had to fly through a doorway, down the short hallway to where I was in the Kitchen.

The second time he flew, I was getting his cage ready before I headed back to work, and he flew from his perch to me. Again, very graceful. It's almost like he was practicing this for a while, and decided to show it to me today!

The following video shows Disney flying to me. It was taken on his 11th week birthday! These flights are his third, fourth and fifth. Landing on my face was not what I had in mind!

A First!

Disney held his toy with his foot while he played with it tonight!

This is the first time I saw him do it.

Soon he'll be holding food while he eats it.

Ready for Bed

After having an excellent evening feeding, Disney is ready to settle down for the night. Disney finished all of the formula tonight that was mixed with some applesauce and rice cereal. He stayed in the feeding position, taking all the food until it was gone. His crop was the fullest its been since he came here on Wednesday.

Throughout the day, Disney ate his seed and pellet mix, along with his fresh fruits and veggies. We offered some chicken and some noodles, but he seemed more interested in his seed and pellet mix. He is doing very well cracking open the seeds. Its fun to watch him pick through his dish to find the right piece to eat.

Disney does a scratching motion with his foot in the corner of his cage that I captured on video. He is very animated in the cage when he wants to come out.

He rode on my shoulder upstairs today and watched me as I helped Allison with her school project. He tried to climb up the back of the sofa. He is starting to throw his toys now. It's fun to watch. He acknowledges everything you say to him with a little squawk.

King of the Hill

After trying many, many times, Disney finally made it to the top of Allison's head. He got there tonight when I was getting his formula ready.

He played with a few new toys. He really went crazy with one of them and actually growled at it. Towards the end of the video is when he made the growling sound.

Disney's Second Day Home

Disney's day was much like the first. Today he met Fred and R and Freddie.

Disney's best formula feeding is at night. I noticed he likes it to be warm - so what I did tonight was make three small batches. He finished all but the last batch. This was after eating some string cheese, grapes and carrots - plus some rice with peas, carrots and corn. That's what he is eating in the picture. (Excellent picture Deb!)

Saturday I'll reduce the formula feedings to three, starting a bit later in the morning. He loves to perch on your arm and flap his wings!

First day home

Disney's first day at his new home started off with a breakfast of his formula plus some scrambled eggs and cheese that Allison made for him. Between feedings, Disney had a bowl of fresh fruits and vegetables, a bowl of pellet/seed mixture topped with some cereal.

At noon he had some more Formula and at Dinner time he had formula along with some carrots, a peanut, some string cheese and part of a peanut butter cracker.

He ate his formula best at 8 PM. I mixed up a small batch that he finished and a few spoonfuls of the second batch.

He is a really sweet bird. He weighs 1 pound 0.7 ounces. He loves to come out and snuggle with us, and play with his toys.

Disney Comes Home

Disney is 10 weeks old today and we brought him home this evening. Disney did very well traveling in his carrier. When he got home, he had a snack of grapes and apples and played with his toy. Before I put him in his cage, he snuggled up to my neck for while.

He did great going into his new cage. He explored a few of the new toys before he went into his corner where I put the paper towels for him to sleep on.

Our Visit on October 1, 2008

Disney is 9 weeks old today. We fed him his formula mixed with some rice cereal. Later he had some grapes and animal crackers. This was the first time Deb saw him since our first visit. She was surprised to see how much he has changed - and how he lets us know when he has to poop. We brought some smaller toys to play with. He enjoyed them.

This was the first time I used a flash when taking his picture. It really shows off his beautiful tail.
It turns out the cage I bought for him will not work out. The bar spacing is not wide enough, and Disney caught his toe between the bars.
